Spring Cleaning

Dear Diary,

It’s finally SPRING!

I’m so excited for the warm weather but I am also super pumped to spring clean!!!!

Something you may not know about me is that I actually love to clean.

I think it is an amazing stress reliever to throw on some music while you clean and organize your life!

It also makes me feel so good to have a clean space to relax!

In this post I will share my spring cleaning tips with you!

So grab your favorite cleaning supplies and put on your favorite tunes while you check these tasks off your list!

My favorite cleaning supplies:
  • White Vinegar
  • Essential Oils
  • Baking Soda

1. Dust Everything!

You will feel so much better to have clean, glistening surfaces.

I swear, this already makes you feel put together!

2. Get Organized

When you dust, take everything off your shelves and surfaces!

  • Change the placement of some decorations and reorganize things like books, makeup, jewelry, etc.! You will feel like you have brand new items just by giving them a new home!
  • Next, get some adorable bins for things like blankets and miscellaneous items that you don’t want sitting out and collecting dust!

2. Throw Away/Donate

This isn’t easy for everyone, but I love to declutter. It makes me feel amazing to only have my absolutely favorite items in my collection. Whether it be fashion items, stationary, decorations, electronics, etc., I am happy to give someone something I once loved!

Pro tip for your closet: If you didn’t wear it all season…YOU WONT! Donate it!

  • If you have a hard time with this, turn all your hangers and shoes backwards in your closet. When you wear them, put them back the proper way.
  • At the end of the season, see what items are still backwards. It’s time to part with them!!

3. Clean Out Your Closet

After you donate/throw out all those items you don’t need anymore, take everything else out of your closet and start over!

  • Replace your plastic and metal hangers with nice velvet ones! They allow so much more space and keep your blouses from creasing.
  • Organize by category and color

This makes it super easy to find items quickly.

4. DIY Essential Oil Spray

What You’ll Need:
  • Spray Bottle
  • 1 Cup Distilled Water
  • 6-10 drops essential oil
Directions:
  • Pick up a spray bottle at the dollar store
  • Mix distilled water and your choice of essential oils in the bottle
  • Spray your room and enjoy!
My favorite blend: Great for spring allergies: lemon, lavender and peppermint

5. Clean Your Car

You’re already cleaning your whole house, why not clean your car too?!

Pro tip: Get some cute cupcake liners and put them in your cup holders! Not only will they look adorable, but they will also avoid crumbs all over! When they get dirty, throw them out and replace them!

6. DIY Carpet Refresh Powder

What You’ll Need:
  • Bowl or Container
  • 1 Cup Baking Soda
  • 20 Drops Essential Oil
Directions:
  • Mix baking soda and your choice of essential oils in a bowl
  • Sprinkle over carpet
  • Let sit for about 20-30 minutes
  • Vacuum up when ready!
My favorite blend: Citrus: lemon, orange, and lime!

7. Clean Your Essential Oil Diffuser

This is something you should do monthly anyway, but spring is a great time to do it!

Diffusers are great, but they can get pretty gross if you don’t take care of them! Cleaning regularly will also help your diffuser last longer!

What You’ll Need:
  • Distilled Water
  • 1 tbs White Vinegar
  • Cotton Swab
Directions:
  • Add appropriate amount of distilled water for your diffuser and 1 tablespoon of white vinegar
  • Let diffuse for 5-10 minutes
  • Empty remaining water and vinegar
  • Use cotton swab to clean in hard to reach areas inside diffuser

Pro Tip: Add a few drops of lemon essential oil when cleaning. Not only does it smell nicer, it helps clean it better, too!

8. Scrub Bathroom

In my opinion, there is nothing worse than a gross bathroom…I clean the toilet, sink and bathtub weekly. But when it comes to spring cleaning, it’s time to put on some gloves and scrub it all down!

Here are some bathroom cleaning tips I love:

  • Get Poo-Pourri to spray in the toilet before you go!
  • Dryer sheets are great for removing toilet rings
  • Use a Clorox Bleach Pen to clean grout between tiles
  • Clean out your shower drain, then buy a Shower Hair Catcher to avoid the hair clogging up again
  • Use half a lemon to bring the shine back to your faucets
  • Fill the bathtub with water and a cup of bleach–let sit for 20 mins then drain and scrub
  • Use a steamer to get rid of germs

9. Clean Your Coffee Maker

What You’ll Need:
  • Your Coffee Maker
  • White Vinegar
  • Distilled Water
Directions:
  • Where you normally put your water to brew, fill half way with white vinegar
  • Brew with the white vinegar only
  • Empty and clean pot
  • Now completely fill your coffee maker with distilled water
  • Brew with distilled water only
  • Repeat brewing with distilled water only three times to get all white vinegar cleared
  • Now it’s time to make some coffffeee!!

10. Clean Out Your Fridge

I also hate a messy fridge!

Here are my tips:

  • Empty the entire fridge
  • Throw out any expired items or items you do not need
  • Wipe down completely!
  • Line shelves with cabinet liners from the dollar store. This way, if anything spills, you can throw out the liner and replace it!
  • Put a new box of baking soda in the back of the fridge
  • Get clear bins to organize!
  • Organize your fridge by categories

Now you will have a nice smelling, organized fridge!

11. Get New Bedsheets

This seems so simple, but makes a world of a difference!

Replacing your sheets is important for hygiene and the longevity of your mattress! Think about all that gets in your sheets while you sleep…dead skin, hair, sweat, dirt, etc.

Though washing them is good for a while, it does eventually wear out the comfort and hygiene of our sheets. After a long winter, I think it’s time for new ones!

12. Don’t Do It All At Once!

You will go insane if you try to tackle this all in one day…or even a weekend!

Take your time and enjoy your cleaning process!
